- Bummed, but joining the DRM BoycottI came to Amazon to order Dawn of Discovery after reading a number of great reviews. I just bought a new PC and 30 inch monitor and thought this game would be a great way to break in the system-- I'm a huge Civ fan. It saddens me that I cannot buy this game and support the strategy genre because of the publisher's outrageous DRM restrictions.
Hopefully at some point in the future they will release a version that doesn't treat honest customers like criminals.
- Boycott steam!!!!I have enjoyed the previous versions of this game but since reading the reviews that STEAM is controlling the install, I'm going to have to pass. I purchased all games of the "Total War" series. I have purchased "Empire" and have had nothing but problems with the STEAM control software. What an obnoxious intrusion and performance disruptor. As much as I love strategy games, and with industry consolidation how few good titles still remain, I am not going to purchase another until this horrible, unnecessary 'spyware' is eliminated!!!
- Good Gamelots of thought involved in being successful in this game, although Anno 1503 is still supreme to every other game out there like it. A+ graphics but when you zoom out and in it lags a lot with maxed everything on graphics. Its fun, and worth the money only if you plan on playing it enough, otherwise you will just forget about this game down the road.
- avoiding it like the plagueI almost bought the game from Steam after reading a lot of very good reviews about gameplay. Until I heard about the installation limitations.. Just like the rest who are concerned about reinstalling this down the line (i have games a number of years old that i still play after years of buying the latest pc i can get my hands on) I will back off purchasing this game. Not gonna purchase games with the DRM system in place.
The game looks like a keeper, playability spanning a good number of years.. just not with a DRM in it.
- Awesome GameThis game is unbelievably fun. The graphics are amazing. A lot of people say that it lags on their computer. I have a Dual Core 2.4 ghz, 4 gigs of ram, Vista Home, and a Nvidia 8800GTS card and it runs like a charm on High Settings. There is so much that you can do in this game such as build houses, trade between different ports, build cider fields, etc. They include different scenarios that you have to complete. Overall, I would recommend this game if your into strategy games.
