- Steam is the BEST thing about this game. This is the first Total War game I've ever played, but I have been playing strategy games for as long as I've had a PC.. AoE, Civ, MoO, etc.. I think this is the worst strategy game I have ever played. All the professional reviews go ga-ga and gush about all of the "depth" and detail in this game, but I've never seen a more blatant lie. Most strategy games from 10 years ago have more depth than this thing. It tries to bring in the civic management options of Civilization, but it only superficially does so, and the result is all of the tedium of micromanagement, and none of the feeling of accomplishment for having thought your way through it. It's feels tacked on and useless, and therefore is merely a nuisance. Unfortunately, it's also ALL THERE IS TO THIS GAME. The "battles" could not be more ridiculous and hollow. If your idea of fun is clicking a mouse button on an army of AI who doesn't know how to defend themselves, then you'll have a blast with this game, because that's all there is to the combat.
On the performance side of things, this game also fails hard. My machine way way way exceeds the recommended system requirements, but I am unable to play with settings on anything higher than medium without watching a slideshow. Also, the camera control is the goofiest thing ever put into a game. There are no words to properly express how completely wrong the camera is. Every strategy game in the history of 3D games has gotten the camera right, but this game wants to be different, and it throws everything you thought you knew about mouse camera control right out the window and makes its own goofy rules. I can barely stand playing this game for more than 10 minutes because I am unable to get the damned camera to cooperate.
As you can see, I am not happy with this game. I have bought games that I don't like before, but I can honestly say I've never been as ANGRY about a purchase as I am about this one. I can not think of one single positive thing to say about this half-finished broken game. The way the gaming press has fallen all over themselves to promote this game has me convinced that there is zero integrity left among them. They are being paid off or something, because there is NO WAY that people who have played any of the AMAZING strategy games in the PC's recent past could have seen this game for anything more than the pile of dung that it is.
All these people complaining about Steam are missing the bigger picture. With or without Steam, this game is not worth even thinking about.
- ITS A GREAT GAME WHIT THE ULTIMATE PATCH'Sthis game is a good option if you want to test your military strategy based on the eighteenth century maybe in a begining has had many bad details, but has improved a lot with the patches, Many people liked, many people played it, and many people enjoy it, the STEAM ITS NOT SO BAD AT ALL,its a shield , a protection against piracy, and is not fair that people who do not pay for the original game to enjoy it as much as those who did pay for it, consider this system a protection against piracy, if you buy the game you can install and uninstall many times you want and the computer that you want if it is your account with which you registered, and I consider it well, in my case not slow down the patches and I really enjoyed the whole game. Some missing many pieces of heavy artillery, but it's just a strategy game i give it a ten. any way, its your choice to buy special forces or the normal game if you wana buy only the game choice the normal edition, if you wana some diferent buy this and enjoy cause its good.
- GREAT waste of money!!!!!!For a "final" product this game has to many bugs/crashes. Any number of reasons this game still crashes.
Another drawback that i had myself and have coroborated with many others is that the Road to Independence campaign is bugged in that once you complete it no matter what difficulty you still cant unlock the American Faction, which is....unbelievable considering a major part of the game play.
Overall gameplay is the same old stuff on campaign with buggy new naval mode for fighting.
Knowing what i know now not only would i have not shelled out the [...] for the special edition. i wouldnt have even bought the regular version half off.
I Am So Disappointed In This Product.
- Great gameFew bugs for me....the game worked just fine out of box. Graphics are incredible. The only improvement that could be made on a game like this is if such overall/grand strategic management & tactical control could be combined with the ability to design the weapons/ships/uniforms ones' self. Any designer that could turn out such a game, that ran well, would make a mint.
- Greatest RTS To Date, Though It Does Have A Couple BugsThis game is by far my favorite out of all the Total War series. It has by far the best graphics of almost any game to date, the new interface they use on the campaign map is the most user friendly for both newcomers and veterans of the Total War series, and it also gives you the ability to take part in massive naval battles. This game initially had some bugs, but they are being continually addressed by the developers of the game, and have created an obvious difference in the amount of bugs. Please do heed this warning though: If you just meet the requirements for this game do not buy it, unless you plan on upgrading your computer mainly in RAM and Graphics.
